New films added - and a new cinema in Slottsskogen!

Way Out West will host the world premiere of El Perro Del Mar’s directorial debut, Demi Moore’s celebrated return, skate documentaries and a new film scene: Cinema Slottsskogen.

This year, the festival audience is treated to more than 30 feature films during the festival’s three days – and now ten short films are added. In addition to Grammy-nominated artist El Perro Del Mar‘s directorial debut Big Anonymous, the film program now includes the hyped film The Substance, a body horror praised for Demi Moore‘s performance that won Best Screenplay and was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes in May. Media called it an “immensely, unstoppably, ecstatically demented fairy tale about female self-hatred” (IndieWire) that will have audiences “gasping, wincing, and laughing in disbelief” (BBC).

Previously announced is the world premiere of Nova & Alice, which was partly shot during last year’s festival. The film is directed by Emma Bucht (Love & Anarchy), produced by Lena Rehnberg (Monica Z and Ted – Show Me Love) with Hedda Stiernstedt, Josefin Asplund, Johan Rheborg and Adam Pålsson in the lead roles.

The new movie theater Cinema Slottsskogen, presented in collaboration with Film i Väst, is among the first things that meet visitors at the entrance to the festival area, part of the Skate Garden. In the theater, this year’s short film program is screened daily.

One of this year’s news is the midnight cinema. When the concerts in Slottsskogen are over and Stay Out West kicks off, Way Out West offers world premieres of two new Swedish horror films at Bio Capitol not far from Slottsskogen: True Fear directed by Daniel di Grado and VIRGO directed by Jakob Ekvall (on Friday and Saturday night respectively) .

Another film added to the program is an exclusive world premiere of the new documentary film Pontus Hultén – succéerna och Brilloskandalen, about Pontus Hultén, celebrated director of the Moderna Museet, but after his death accused of one of Sweden’s biggest art scandals.

Way Out West also premieres new documentaries on Wu-Tang legend Old Dirty Bastard, controversial artist Peaches, Scottish indie band Mogwai, multi-artist Mwuana and skate documentaries CLICK CLICK and A mobile community

Today is also the release of the popular short film program. In Cinema Slottsskogen, ten short films from some of Sweden’s most talented contemporary filmmakers are screened every day during the festival. Among the titles are world premieres of Attentat, a fictional story based on a true story about the militant vegan movement in Umeå, and animated Budō which premiered at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival earlier this spring.
