Having a TikTok hit today is both a blessing and a curse. One artist who has managed to make the most of the opportunity is Lola Young, who has transitioned from a promising newcomer to a superstar thanks to her timelessly raspy voice and the song Messy. Some artists, however, have been around much longer—like the legendary Cymande, one of the most important bands of their generation. Their first three albums—Cymande (1972), Second Time Round (1973), and Promised Heights (1974)—combined jazz, funk, soul, and Caribbean rhythms into something truly unique, with both political and spiritual depth. This year, their journey continues with the newly released album Renascence and a performance at Way Out West.

With over a billion streams, sold-out tours, multiple platinum-certified singles and albums, and prestigious awards—including three Grammy Award—Molly Sandén is undeniably one of Sweden’s most prominent artists and songwriters. Last year marked the beginning of a new era for Sandén, as she achieved one of her most successful years to date. She released three platinum-selling singles, including Slutet av Sommarn, which also became the most-played song on national radio. In September, she collaborated with Victor Leksell on Lost and Found, which debuted at #1 on Spotify’s Top 50 and held the top spot for eight consecutive weeks, amassing over 20 million streams yet to date. In January, she premiered her latest single, Tur i oturen, at the P3 Guld gala, where she was nominated for three awards. Looking ahead, she is set to deliver her only Swedish performance of 2025 at the Way Out West festival this summer.

Ghanaian-American artist Amaarae is a modern artist in every sense of the word. With Fountain Baby (2023), she broke boundaries and opened doors. The album received Best New Music recognition and an 8.7 rating from Pitchfork’s influential review scale—no coincidence- Some debut albums are almost too good. Like British artist Nilüfer Yanya’s critically acclaimed, eclectic masterpiece Miss Universe from 2019. The album introduced us to a rich artistry that has continued to deliver top-tier indie music—last year’s My Method Acting is a showcase of great songwriting.
